Naomi Grace Gleason, 95, of Nederland, formerly of Morgantown, West Virginia, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Homewood Residence in Victoria, Texas. She was born on February 11, 1918, to Wilbur and Alice Grace, in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania. Naomi graduated from Morgantown High School, Morgantown, West Virginia, and earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from West Virginia University. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority for over fifty years and a member of the academically recognized, Phi Beta Kappa. Naomi was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Nederland and taught business courses at Nederland High School for thirty-five years. She resided in Nederland, Texas for sixty-four years.
Married to Robert F. Gleason for over sixty years; survivors include her brother, Dr. Warren Grace, of West Virginia; her daughter, Naomi L. Fanett and her husband, Martin, of Houston; her son, James D. Gleason and his wife, Katherine, of Victoria; grandchildren, Paul Gleason and his wife Carolyn, of Austin and Heather G. Montgomery and her husband Jay, of Victoria; and great-grandchildren, Lauren Montgomery and Jason Montgomery.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Alice Grace; brother, Dr. James Grace; and husband, Robert F. Gleason.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lydia Andrews, who provided friendship and assistance to Mrs. Gleason for the past several years.
A gathering of Mrs. Gleason’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2013, at Broussard's, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Broussard's, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
