Joe Drago III

   FORT WORTH - Joe Drago III, loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at home surrounded by his wife and children after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

   Service: Mass of Christian Burial was at 11:30 am, Wednesday at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 3717 Stadium Drive, Fort Worth. Memorial reception was on 5 pm, Wednesday at Colonial Country Club. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation was held 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Laurel Land Memorial Chapel of Fort Worth with recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m.

   Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts in memory of Joe to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers.

   Joe was born Feb. 25, 1940, to Joe Drago Jr. and Josephine Parigi Drago in Port Arthur. He graduated from Bishop Byrne High School with honors and from the University of Texas with a BA degree in 1963. He attended UT Law School and was licensed as an attorney in 1966. He married Diane Cohen, Sept. 5, 1965, and together they had three children.

   Joe's law career began as an assistant city attorney of Fort Worth. Later he became a municipal court judge, an assistant district attorney and state criminal district judge. He retired in 2002.

   Joe was recognized by the Tarrant County Bar Association as an outstanding jurist with a reputation for competency, efficiency and integrity. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, a former Little League coach, a former board member of Nolan High School and board of director of St. Joseph Hospital.

   The family would like to extend a special thanks to physicians Asad Dean, Jesse Smith, Jerry Barker and Steven Childers for their devoted care.

   Joe was preceded in death by his father Joe Drago Jr.; mother-in-law, Eva Dale Cohen; and special friends, Tom Zachry and Tim Curry.

   Survivors: Wife, Diane; children, Joseph A. Drago and wife, Catherine, Jon David Drago and wife, Jennifer, and Sarah Drago Goggans and husband, Brandon; grandchildren, Renee, Gabriella, Emma, Sophia, Caroline and James; mother, Josie Drago; sister, Mary Frances Drago; brothers, Dominic S. Drago and wife, Lana, and Jon T. Drago and wife, Lisa; father-in-law, Alfred Cohen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Grisselle Cohen and David and Alma Cohen; special friends, Judge Don Leonard and wife, Judy, Yvette Johnson, Lucy Lopez and John Beatty; and many nieces and nephews.
