PORT ARTHUR —
On March 28, 1943, Gloria Dean entered this world as the second daughter born into the holy union of Mr. and Mrs. L.Z. and Jessie Lee McClenon. A native of Washington, Texas, soon after Gloria's birth the family relocated to Port Arthur, Texas. The family joined First Sixth Street Baptist Church, which flourished under the gracious and compassionate leadership of Gloria's first cousin, the renowned Reverend Dr. Ransom Howard.
Gloria and her older sister, Mae Jeweral, attended Port Arthur schools and both graduated from Lincoln High School in 1960. After high school, Gloria attended Texas Southern University and later transferred to Port Arthur College (now Lamar State College - Port Arthur). Upon completing her education she accepted employment at Prarie View A&M University.
During this time in her life, Gloria would spend some of her free time visiting the home of her cousin, Mrs. Ruth Davis. This is where she met Ruth's two charming young nephews named Kevin and David Boson. The boys were living with Ruth, her husband Mr. Robert Davis, Sr., and their son Robert Davis, Jr., while their father was stationed overseas by the U.S. Navy.
The young boys charm was apparently inherited from their father, Wilbert Boson, Jr., because upon his return from overseas and introduction to the attractive, gregarious, educated and independent Gloria, he set about making her his wife.
Wilbert's military career dictated he relocate his family to San Diego, California where he and Gloria were united in wedded bliss on April 5, 1974. A year later the family welcomed a daughter into the family and named her Valencia.
While living in San Diego, Gloria worked for the Girl Scouts of America before quitting to take care of the new baby. After her husband's military retirement, Gloria supported and aided his ability to establish and operate the successful Boson Moving and Storage company.
Gloria was a member of Bayview Baptist Church, an active PTA mom, a surrogate mother to many children in the family's neighborhood, and a beloved friend and confidant to countless people.
In 2000, Wilbert and Gloria sold the family business and made the decision to return to their home state of Texas. They settled in the Houston community of Plantations of Woodforest - New Forest subdivision. Gloria was active in her new community and was a member of the Beautification Committee and participated in several annual events.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Wilbert Boson, Jr.; sons Kevin and David Boson; daughter Valencia Boson-Lessane; son-in-law Roscoe Lessane; grandchildren Jennifer Boson-Harris, Derrell Boson, and Jalen Lessane; grandson-in-law Lamar Harris; great-grandaughter Sa'Nye Harris; sister Mae Jeweral Ford; brothers-in-law Robert Davis, Sr. and Richard Boson; sisters-in-law Ruth Davis and Arnetta Boson; god-children Darnika Prescott-Bryant, Kenneth Paul Washington, Jr., Michelle Vivian, and Brandon Fenner; best friends Sheila Williams, Pearl Stewart, Barbara Penn, and Pat Brisco; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and additional relatives and loved ones.
