PORT ARTHUR —
Calburnia (Cal) Jones, the son of the late Benjamin and Agnes Joseph Jones was born in Plaisance, LA on January 16, 1938. The eldest of nine children, Cal attended elementary school in Plaisance and attended and graduated from Lincoln High (Adult) School in Port Arthur, Texas.
Cal was united in matrimony to Bertha Ree Nedd 54 years on July 23, 1960, in Port Arthur, TX. Cal came to Port Arthur in his early twenties and became a member of Eastern Star Baptist Church, where he was a devout and faithful member serving as Church Treasurer, Deacon, Trustee, and Sunday School Teacher.
He obtained his Barber and Cosmetology License in 1961 and established Cal’s Mod Shop.
In 1979, he opened Cal’s Mod Shop at 2249 Gulfway Drive, Port Arthur, TX. He was self-employed for 55 years. In addition to being a Hair Technician, Cal was a Notary, Tax Preparer, and Personal Consultant for his patrons. Cal departed this life on February 14, 2014, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, TX.
He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife, Bertha and two sons, Theo and Toney Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Eastern Star Baptist Church beginning at 9:00 A.M. Funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday with Rev. L.W. Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
