PORT ARTHUR —
Mr. R.C (Clinell) Dennis departed this life on Monday, September 23, 2013 in Groves, Texas. Clinell was born on May 18, 1940 to Jonas and Alma Dennis in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana. He accepted Christ at a young age and was a faithful member at the Antioch Baptist Church in Goudeau, LA and was a long-time member of the Bayou Rouge Burial Society.
He attended Carver High School in Bunkie LA and received his G. E. D. at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. He relocated to Port Arthur, TX as a young adult and was a construction worker in Local 853. He worked on various construction projects in the Port Arthur area but was most proud of his work as a part of the team that built the Rainbow Bridge in Port Arthur. After his career in the construction industry ended, he founded his own lawn and garden service and was known throughout the community for his excellence in lawn care and lawn mower repair.
He will be remembered in his neighborhood for sharing his home grown produce with others who were special to him. He is also remembered for his love of music, mostly R&B and blues.
He is preceeded in death by his parents, Jonas and Alma Dennis, brothers Roosevelt (Mutt), Elbin (Peanut), Wilbert (Speedy) and Lawrence (Red) Dennis; sisters Elgar Mae Heath, Inez Christopher, Lillie Mae Lambert and Louise Callegari.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 46 years, Willie Carolyn, sons Anthony and Jerome, and his loving granddaughter, Amaya Renee Dennis. His passing is also mourned by his sisters-in-law Marie Dennis Woods and C. Ella Dennis of Port Arthur and Diana Dennis of Houston. Also, Carrie Lee (Landry) Foots, Patsy Bell, Shirley (Curtis) Iles, Penny Butler, and Dot Jackson (Curley) Green of Houston; brothers-in-law Curry Heath of Goudeau, LA and Willie Lambert of Port Arthur, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Antioch Baptist Church in Goudeau, LA with a viewing from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Goudeau, LA under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
