Charles Boyd Barksdale, Jr., 80, of Nederland, died Sunday, February 17, 2013, at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Port Arthur. He was born on November 14, 1932, in Bakersfield, California, to Cleo Bridges and Charles Boyd Barksdale, Sr., and had been a lifelong resident of the area.
Charles was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II. He worked as a labor negotiator with Chevron for thirty-seven years before his retirement. Charles was a member of the Masonic Cosmopolitan Lodge, # 872, A.F. & A.M. In his spare time, Charles enjoyed and was an avid fisherman and woodworker.
Survivors include his wife of twenty-five years, Fran Barksdale of Nederland; daughter, Rebecca Barksdale; son, Boyd Barksdale; stepson, Bill Sims and his wife, Ornell; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A gathering of Mr. Barksdale’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Broussard’s, with a graveside service to follow at 2:30 p.m., at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Memorial Drive, Houston.
