PORT ARTHUR —
Rev. Dr. Jeff Gunner, Jr., 67, passed from this life on February 12, 2013 with his devoted wife Brenda at his side at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was born in Centerville, Louisiana to the late Jefferson and Edna Gunner. After high school, he served in the United States Army. He later moved to Port Arthur where he worked as a United States Postal Supervisor until his retirement. After receiving a successful kidney transplant, he was called to the ministry and founded and pastored Keeping Him Close By Bible Church in Port Arthur.
Pastor Gunner is preceded in death by his parents Jefferson Gunner and Edna Burch, Jeffrenda Gunner, Daisy Diggs, Philip Gunner, Rosa Prevost and Arnold Prevost.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife Brenda Gunner; his father-in-law, Clarence Prevost, Jr.; children Camille Dumas (Charles), Jeff Gunner III (Shanna), Anthony Prevost, Jerome Hudson (Olympia), Tauzell Charm (David) Howard Gunner (Yolanda), Joshua Gunner (Asia), Bryan Robinson and Sheneika Bowie.
Jeff also had special children that touched his life, Demetria Prevost (Kawan), Elnora Como, Kimberly Lee Wilson & Shannon Jones. He also leaves to cherish his memory two sister, Emma Gunner and Linda Craft of Houma, LA; 23 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Adrienne Tanner (Clint) and Carla Roman (Eddie); 7 brothers-in-law, Ronald, Allen, Terence, Clarence III, Rueben, Baron, Kelvin Prevost; a very special friend and brother William “Bill” Robinson, Loving Spiritual Mother, Goldie Anderson.
Rev. Gunner will lie in state from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013 at Keeping Him Close By Bible Church and his funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Solid Rock Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
