Dewey “Peto” Romero, Sr.

PORT ACRES —    Dewey “Peto” Romero, Sr., 82, of Port Acres, died Thursday, January 17, 2013.  He was born on April 5, 1930, to Florence Theriot Romero and Elias Romero, Sr., in Port Arthur.  Mr. Romero worked in industrial construction and was a member of Boilermakers Local 587.  He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church.

   Mr. Romero took pride in caring for his home and family.  When he learned of a neighbor or family member in need, he helped anyway he could without being asked.  He frequently visited family members just to offer a warm smile and be by their side.  He will be remembered as a special angel with a giving heart.  His family will miss his special smile and endless kisses.

   Mr. Romero is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Beryl “BeBe” Fitzgerald Romero;  daughters, Pat Overstreet and her husband, Ron, of Port Neches and Lori Lynn Valdez and her husband, Manuel, of Beaumont; sons, Richard “Rick” Romero and his wife, Lisa, of Port Acres; Victor Ray Romero, Sr., and his wife, Debbie, of Bridge City; and Dewey “Junebug” Romero, Jr., and his wife, Tammy, of Lumberton; grandsons, Reverend Brian Johnson, Brad Overstreet, Kristopher Barnes, Robbie Barnes, Victor Romero, Jr., Gregory Valdez, Nicholas Valdez, and Cade Romero; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Eugenia Oliver and Ann Hinds; and brother, Reverend Joseph John Romero.

   He is preceded in death by his parents; sons, George Steven Romero and Wilfred James Romero; brothers, Stanley Romero, Lover Romero, Roy Romero, George Romero, and Elias Romero, Jr.; sisters, Lillian Romero, Mildred Brevell, Rose “Totsy” Dees, Mickey Romero, and Lucille Vizena.

   A gathering of Mr. Romero’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2013, with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland.  His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 21, 2013, at Central Baptist Church, 903 Avenue B, Port Neches, with interment to follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland.
