PORT ARTHUR —    Daniel Keys,  Jr. was God’s gift to Daniel and Annie  M. Keys. This blessing arrived on August 27, 1936 in Orange, Texas.

Daniel grew up in Port Arthur, Texas. He attended Lincoln High School graduating in 1957. He also attended Wiley College at Marshall, Texas.

   He made a decision to become a merchant marine. The sea was his life. He sailed on Texaco ships for years and later Arco and British Petroleum company ships. He often bragged about having sailed around the world four times. He could tell many stories of his sea life, (which he would tell over and over again).

   He was a proud member of God 1st Missionary Baptist Church. He served on the usher board. He was also a member of Port Arthur City Wide Ushers before becoming ill.

   Other organizations that he was a member of were Seaman Social & Civic Club, The Learning Center Club and the Class of 1957at Lincoln High.

   He was preceded in death by his Father Daniel Keys, Sr. and mother Annie M. Keys; Aunts Aquilla Lewis, Rosetta Mouton, Pricilla Freeman, Adaline Williams, Betty Moore,        Jamesetta Gardner, Ruth Johnson and Hilda Johnson; Uncles Jack Johnson and William Johnson.

   Daniel is survived by his wife Barbra Hannah Keys; his five children: Daniel Keys III (Denise) of San Antonio, Texas, Channon Milien (Joel) of Vallejo, California,   Ida    Keys, Byron Keys of Carson  California, and Tawana Keys Howard (LaKeith) of Port Arthur, Texas, One step-son Joseph M. H. Johnson (Renee’) of Port Arthur, Texas. His loving sister Tommiesazine Louviere (Norris) of Port Arthur, Texas and special loving aunts Flossie  Edmounds of Pearland, Texas, and  Helen Johsnon of Los Angeles, California; 8 grandchildren, one sister-in-law Eva Carol Hannah of Houston, Texas and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

   Funeral services will be  2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church  with visitation beginning at 12 noon. Interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Hannah Funeral Home, Inc. `
