Eileen Newman, 94, of Nederland, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Port Arthur. She was born September 11, 1918, to Ioma Butchee Chester and Marvin D. Chester in Port Arthur, and had been a lifelong resident of the area
Eileen devoted her life to being a homemaker and caring for her children. Eileen was an active and longtime member of several local organizations including Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Port Neches and Nederland, past President of the Nederland Lioness Club, Nederland Alumni Association and Den mother in the Nederland Cub Scout Program. She was also a longtime and active member of First United Methodist Church, Nederland.
Survivors include her sons, Arthur G. Newman of Nederland and Marvin C. Newman and his wife, Barbara, of Orange; granddaughters, Amanda Newman, Angela Ewing and her husband, B.J. and Brittany Newman; great-grandchildren, Mathew Ewing and Katelyn Ewing; sister-in-law, Dell Chester; nieces, Rebecca Chester and Joanna Aimonetti, and her husband, Dave; nephews, James D. Chester, II; and grand-niece, Isabella Aimonetti.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, W.G. “Bill” Newman; brother, J.D. Chester; sisters, Muriel D. Chester and Evelyn C. Thompson; and niece, Melinda Chester.
A gathering of Mrs. Newman’s family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2013, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Broussard’s, Nederland, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
