Avalon Jane Lumpkin Clotiaux

LUFKIN —    Avalon Jane Lumpkin Clotiaux, 90, was promoted to be with her Father in heaven on July 14, 2014, at Woodland Heights Medical Center in Lufkin, Texas.

   She was born April 9, 1924, in Weirgate, Newton County, Texas, to Celeste Keller Lumpkin and Kenneth Lumpkin. She attended school in Nederland, Texas, graduating in 1941, and married Olin Clotiaux on January 23, 1943 in Kountze, Texas.

   Jane was a mother and housewife for 25 years and entered the work force after the death of her husband. She was employed as a teacher’s aid and also worked at Sun Oil Company. She retired at the age of 72 after working at a Merle Norman Studio for 15 years. Once retired, she enjoyed reading, volunteering for the HOSTS Reading Program, traveling and Fun Fridays at Curtis United Methodist Church.

   Her devotion and love for her family was the primary focus of her life. She will be remembered for her wisdom, humor , generousity and ability to adapt and embrace her life’s many changes.

   She lived most of her life in Nederland, Texas, moving to Jasper, Texas in April 1998, to be near family. A life-long Methodist, she was an active member of Curtis United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women at the time of her death.

   She is survived by 6 children, Jan and Billy Sims of Diboll, Texas, Cheri and Bill Stringer of Austin, Texas, Terry Clotiaux and Brian Derby of Austin, Texas, Pam and Don Howard of Henderson, Texas, Keith Ann Clotiaux of Austin, Texas, and Faith and Reagan Clotiaux of Jasper, Texas. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one sister, Juanita Doolittle of Onalaska, Texas. She was predeceased by her husband, Olin, who passed away on February 27, 1972.

   A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 19, 2014 , at 2:00 pm at The Curtis United United Methodist Church, 125 Hwy 63 West Alt., Jasper, Texas, with the Rev. Dick Phillips officiating. Immediately following the service there will be a reception in the Wesley Center at The First United Methodist Church, 329 N. Bowie Street, Jasper, Texas.    The family would like to express our gratitude and thanks to Dr. Mary Parrish, Advantage Plus Home Care, the staff of Larkspur Transitional Care, Hospice in the Pines, and the ER and ICU staff at Woodland Heights Medical Center in Lufkin, Texas.

   In lieu of flowers, Jane requested memorials to The Curtis United Methodist Church, 125 State Highway 63 Alt., Jasper, Texas 75951.
