NEDERLAND —    Kenneth H. Sheffield, age 87, of Nederland, died Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur. Kenneth was born May 31, 1926 in Blox, Texas to the late John Bright and Hazel James Sheffield and lived in Nederland 77 years.

   Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, July 5, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Nederland with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, under the direction of Melancon’s in Nederland. A gathering of the family and friends will be held from 5 to 8 PM Thursday, July 4, 2013 at the funeral home.

   Kenneth was retired as a Pharmacist owning and operating the Nederland Pharmacy in Nederland for 55 years. Kenneth was a member of the Texas Pharmaceutical Association, Texas Pharmacy CO-OP,  National Association of Retail Druggists and was the first graduating Pharmaceutical Class at the University of Houston. Kenneth pharmacy was named Small Business of the Year in 1998, and was honored to be named Mr. Nederland by his peers at the Nederland Heritage Festival. Kenneth served on the board of the Nederland Heritage Festival and the Nederland Chamber of Commerce. He also was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nederland, and the American Legion. Kenneth served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife and the mother of his children, Joann Ehrhart Sheffield, and also his wife, E’Lane Shropshire Sheffield; his brothers, Clarence, Ed , and Delbert Sheffield; his sister, Verline Parrish. He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Collins of Port Neches, Rebecca Escamilla and her husband, Terry of Lafayette, Colorado, and Elizabeth Rollinson and her husband Chris, of Erie, Colorado; son, Kenneth Sheffield, Jr. and his wife, Catherine of Colleyville, Texas; step-daughters, Retta Parker and her husband, Dan of Chapelhill, Ree Adams of The Woodlands, and Judy Walters of College Station; step-sons, Dr. Tad Walters and his wife, Sherry of Houston, Dr. Jake Walters and his wife, Karen of San Antonio, and Max Walters and his wife, Lila of Plano; his sister, Doris Dickerson of Groves; also 28 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.

   The family would like to give a special thanks to Kenneth’s caregivers, Katina and Mary for the loving care given to Kenneth and the family.
