PORT ARTHUR —
Lynell Bates of Port Arthur died Thursday, April 17, 2014 at his home. A native of Liberty, MS, he was a resident of Port Arthur for 20 years and was a retired carpenter. He helped many people with the beautification of their homes. He was an active member of Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Edna Bates and eight siblings.
Survivors include his wife Azalie Bates; one son, Brandon Bates of Mansfield, LA; one daughter Shanetra Bates of Lanchester, CA; four grandchildren; two sisters Betty Bates of Washington, DC and Shirley Gilmore (Larry) of Liberty, MS; two brothers Jerry and Frank Bates of Liberty, MS; two brothers-in-law Terry and Thomas Lane; two sisters-in-law Mary Harrison and Patsy Brooks; his dog Cole; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The visitation is scheduled from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Allen Temple Church of God in Christ in Liberty, MS. Funeral service is scheduled for 12 noon Friday, April 25, 2014 at Allen Temple Church of God In Christ with Pastor James B. Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Cox Cemetery under the direction of People Funeral Home. Local arrangements by Gabriel Funeral Home.
