Wilma Donna Nickel Grimes (Nickie), 87, of Nederland, Texas, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas. She was born November 16, 1925 in Wichita, Kansas to William Frederick Nickel and Ernestine Davis Nickel.
She was a housewife for many years before working for Meyer Insurance, Bedair Insurance and Kiddie Kottage Day Care. She loved to read, square dance, make quilts and other handwork and be with her friends, especially those from her church. She came to know Christ as her Savior at Central Baptist Church of Port Arthur, where she was active with the Prime Timers and worked for many years in the bed baby room at the nursery. She later joined First Baptist Church of Nederland and has been an active member there for 20 years.
She is survived by her daughters Sheryl Van Doren of Wichita, Kansas and Kerry Van Doren Pedigo and her husband Mike of Nederland, Texas; her grandchildren Laura Pedigo Polk and her husband John of Nederland, Texas and Paul Pedigo and his wife Delaney of LaPorte, Texas; and her great-grandchildren Hailey and Hannah Polk of Nederland, Texas.
Visitation will be on Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 20, 2013 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson with Rev. Jason Burden, officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
