Dr. Vincent E. Dimiceli

On June 9, 2013, after a brave, life-long fight against childhood kidney and liver disease, Dr. Vincent E. Dimiceli, age 50, passed away at Methodist Hospital in Houston where he was awaiting a combined kidney and liver transplant. His fight started when he was two years old and spanned more than 48 years.  He was on dialysis at 13 and he received a kidney transplant from his twin brother June 10, 1981, at age 18.   However, the dialysis and blood transfusions compromised his liver, the failure of which eventually claimed his life.

Despite these health difficulties, Dr. Dimiceli was able to maintain a record of academic excellence.  He first received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Lamar University. He discovered his love of teaching while tutoring in college. He realized he could see himself having a teaching career, educating young minds and enriching them with wisdom for the future. He then obtained a Master’s Degree in Mathematics and finally a Doctorate in Mathematics Education, both at Texas A&M University. He spent a year teaching high school math, specializing in geometry and calculus before going to Oral Roberts University (ORU).

As a tenured Associate Professor of Mathematics, Dr. Dimiceli has been identified by ORU as an example of an educator who loves teaching, really cares about his students and has a visible passion for Jesus. He always strove to make mathematics interesting, captivating and even exciting.  His passion for Jesus was manifest by his starting each class with a prayer. He has been teaching at ORU for 16 years.

He is survived by his mother, Betty Dimiceli of Port Arthur, Texas, and his wife of 22 years, Linda Dimiceli and their two children, Peter, age 12, and Emma, age 9, all of Tulsa, Okla. He is also survived by his older brothers Emanuel Dimiceli and his wife Sue (Big Sky, Mont.), Malcolm Dimiceli and his wife Ida (Newnan, Ga.), Dr. Lawrence P. Dimiceli and his wife Shirin (San Antonio, Texas); his twin brother Charles Dimiceli and his wife Laura (Pleasanton, Calif.); his sister-in-law Judy Dimiceli (The Woodlands, Texas); and his sister Claudia and her husband Dr. Jeffrey Price (Port Neches, Texas). He was preceded in death by his father, Vito, and older brother, Thomas.

The family of Vincent Dimiceli will receive friends and relatives Wednesday, June 12, 2013 from five until seven in the evening at the Bradshaw-Carter home.  A service celebrating Vincent’s life begins at seven o’clock.  Vincent’s graveside service will be Thursday, June 13, 2013 at two o’clock in the afternoon at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Port Arthur, Texas.  A date will be set later for a memorial service in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

As an alternative to flowers, donations to “Peter and Emma” to be used for their benefit as they grow to adulthood would be welcomed.
