James Austin Miller, Sr., was born April 24, 1929 in Florien, Louisiana to Hattie and Ben Miller, Sr. He passed away on November 24, 2013. James graduated from Florien High School which he referred to as Florien University. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a 50 caliber machine gunner. He retired from Texaco after 34 years working as a maintenance supervisor. Yes, he was the real deal, a diamond in the rough. If he liked you he would give you the shirt off his back, if not, he would not give you the time of day.
He is survived by his son Palmer Miller, son and daughter in law, J.A. and Lisa Miller, sister, Doris Wright, 4 grandchildren, Lynn Miller, Heather Miller, Jade Miller and Austin Miller as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur, Texas on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 29, 2013 at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Florien, Louisiana with burial to follow.
