Go Dutch with Nederland’s Art in the Park

NEDERLAND — Get ready to Go Dutch with Nederland’s Art in the Park event.

The second annual event, hosted by the City of Nederland Parks and Recreation, is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Doornbos Park, 2301 Ave. H., in Nederland.

“It will be a jam packed day with lots of entertainment,” Angela Fanette, parks and recreation director, said. “There will not be a dull moment out here.”

The event will feature a free petting zoo and free pony rides, a super sandbox with prizes and upwards of 45 vendors selling and showing all kinds of arts and crafts.

“We will be making out very own windmills and tulips. We’re going Dutch,” she said referring in part to the city’s Dutch heritage. “The kids will be able to make those with us as well as bird feeders and the craft activities are free.”

There will also be finger painting and face painting, Hula Hoop and sack races.

Fanette said the event is a way to celebrate spring and have a fun day in the park.

There will be lots of food to choose from as well: Nederland Domino’s, Divina La Pizza, Mimi’s Food Hut plus other organizations selling links and drinks.

There will also be performances by Tonalta, Folkloric Dancers and the Bird Man will bring along his feathered friends.

Nederland City Manager Chris Duque said there’s something for everyone at Art in the Park.

“It’s a unique community event that will bring out local artists and crafters as well as sharing different cultures,” he said.
