Raising Cane’s coming to Nederland

NEDERLAND — Raising Cane’s is coming to Nederland.

But first, some work must be done.

The proposed location,  3324 FM 365, currently features a long vacant home and associated buildings and is overgrown with trees and brush, Nederland City Manager Chris Duque said. The home must first be demolished to make way for the eatery.

“The site has been in a state of decline for some time,” Duque added.

The fate of the home was discussed during a public hearing regarding dilapidated structures on Monday.

During the meeting Nederland Building Official George Wheeler told council that officials with Raising Cane’s have submitted a full set of plans for the property and that the property owner is in the process of selling the land to the restaurant chain.

Raising Cane’s has 90 days to acquire the property and another 90 days to clear the land, including demolition of the house and other related buildings, Duque said.

The restaurant will be located on about an acre of land, feature a drive-through, some landscaping and 33 parking spaces among other amenities.

The addition of Raising Cane’s is a plus for the City of Nederland.

“Anytime we can add a new business to this community is a great thing,” Duque said. “It’s going to improve that area and put a new business on the highway.”

The restaurant will also bring in property and sales tax revenue as well as be a source of jobs for the community.
