Ned’s Foust competes in The Sing-Off; group to be in semi-finals

Singing comes naturally for Tim Foust.

The Nederland High School graduate and current member of the A Capella group Home Free is competing in NBC’s The Sing-Off. The show will air on Thursday with the finale show on Monday.

“He has literally been singing since before he could speak clearly,” his mother, Dean Foust said.

Tim Foust, 32, sings bass in the vocal group and has a near five octive range. He credits his music teachers at the high school for helping him develop the skills. It was at this time that music became an ever larger part of his life.

“Not only did I realize my calling, even though I ignored it a for a couple of years, but I developed that passion,” Foust said via phone. “I give a lot of credit to music teachers Renee Kloes and Twyla Nau.”

Foust did not study music in college; instead he enrolled at Lamar University and was a pre-dental major.

Music has been a big part of the singers life.

“He grew up listening to his grandmother sing and listening to Eddy Arnold and Tennessee Ernie Ford. Music has always been important to my family, singing around the house, listening to it and each other and singing in church,” she said. “He is very blessed to have such a talent and be able to use it.”

Foust and the vocal group Home Free are competing for the ultimate prize of a recording contract and $100,000.

“It’s unbelievable. A dream come true,” he said.

The Sing-Off is hosted by Nick Lackey and the judges are Ben Folds, Shawn Stockman and Jewel.

“It’s an honor to be able to perform in from of such iconic performers and have them give feedback, it’s all been positive,” he said. “And them giving us their praise is mind blowing, coming from people we look up to ourselves.”

Foust offered thanks to his many supporters adding that “it’s been overwhelming.”
