Santa will be a busy guy on Saturday.
The jolly old elf will spend time in each of the three Mid-County cities for three separate events and usher in the Christmas season on Dec. 1.
The City of Nederland is gearing up for its fifth annual holiday event dubbed Christmas on the Avenue.
The festivities, scheduled for 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 on Boston Avenue, will feature a few new events such as a snow flake search where kids can keep the ornamental snow flakes and a Velcro wall as well as a train, petting zoo, pony rides, exhibits, food and more.
The 2012 official City of Nederland ornaments are currently being sold and can be purchased for $10 at the Nederland Parks and Recreation building, 2301 Avenue H.
A tree lighting will be held at Tex Ritter Park at dark. Mayor Richard “Dick” Nugent will get a little help lighting the tree from two local children. Mackenzie Patterson, who is courageously battling a form of leukemia and has been dubbed by the mayor as Snowflake Princess, will be joined by Christian Borel who is raising funds for an alert dog.
Nederland Coach Larry Neumann, Nederland Bulldogs, NHS cheerleaders and Big Ned will be out and about on Boston Avenue.

The annual Port Neches Christmas Parade is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1 on Merriman with U.S. Marine Sgt. Josh Yarbrough taking part as parade marshal. Yarbrough was injured in the line of duty and recently returned to the area.
The Chamber feels ‘tis the season for giving and sharing and will be collecting canned goods, non-perishable food items and new blankets to benefit local families this holiday season.
This year’s parade will be down Merriman Street towards Port Neches-Groves High School and ending at Port Neches Riverfront Park.

The Groves 2012 Lighted Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Groves Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Center, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1.
Line up for the parade will be at 5 p.m. at the corner of Cleveland and 39th. The parade will proceed down 39th Street, turn right onto Lincoln Avenue, left on Jefferson, continue onto West Jefferson and disband at West Jefferson and Gulf Avenue.
