Nederland suspects arrested for Mid-County burglaries

Three Nederland men and one juvenile have been charged with a string of Mid-County burglaries.

Deputy Rod Carroll with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, said the suspects were arrested over the weekend in connection with six burglaries of habitations which include two in Groves, two in Nederland and two in Mid-County.

The Sheriff’s Office, along with Nederland and Groves police departments, collaborated on the cases.

The suspects are identified as Don Franklin McCray, 22, of Nederland. Bond is set at $15,000 for burglary of a habitation and $5,000 for marijuana possession; Cameron David Pennell, 20, of Nederland. Bond is set at $15,000 for burglary of a habitation; and Jonathan Miller, 20, of Nederland. He has two bonds at $15,000 each for burglary of a habitation.

The juvenile is a 16-year-old whose information is being with-held due to legal requirements, Carroll said.

Deputies acting on a tip from the Nederland Watchdog Facebook Page were able to identify the suspects and recover a large amount of stolen property, Carroll said. Included in the stolen property were 16 guns, 10 flat screen TVs, and numerous computers. The total value of the stolen property was $20,000.

Carroll said members of the Facebook group began talking about the burglaries and describing a possible suspect vehicle.

“And the ball started rolling from there,” Carroll said. “That’s the power of social media. In the past we used to do reenactments for crime stoppers, now everybody has a DVR and posts photos.”

“The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the individuals that assisted us in locating and identifying this group,” he said.
