A Nederland man has pleaded guilty to a 2012 murder on Tuesday.
Kurt Kasper Jr., 28 pleaded guilty to the stabbing death of Timothy James Melancon, 54, of Beaumont.
The incident occurred about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012 at a home in the 300 block of N. 15th St. Upon arrival, Nederland Police Officers found Melancon suffering from a stab wound to the chest. The victim was conscious at the time and Nederland Police Chief Darrell Bush said the man identified his attacker before being transported to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. Melancon died during surgery at the hospital, according to a story that ran in the March 2, 2012 edition of The News.
The suspect was inside the 15th Street home that he shared with his mother and surrendered the knife without incident. The victim was reportedly a friend of the suspect’s mother.
Kasper will be sentenced on Sept. 30 in Criminal District Court Judge John Stevens court, according to an employee with Judge Stevens’ office. Kasper could serve up to 20 years as part of a plea deal.
