BEAUMONT — FBI agents arrived at the Beaumont Independent School District administration building Thursday morning to investigate possible financial irregularities in the district.

In a statement to the media, BISD communications specialist Nakisha Myles said that the district is working with the United States Attorney’s Office regarding allegations that someone set up bogus accounts and diverted district funds.

“It is the district’s intent to fully investigate and provide information to the FBI,” Myles said.

The investigation comes on the heels of the Texas Education Agency’s announcement that it is looking into several potential concerns at BISD. FBI officials were also at the homes of BISD Superintendent Timothy Chargois and chief financial officer Devin McCraney.

Some BISD officials, including communications specialist Ron Reynolds, were not allowed access to their offices during the investigation. Aside from that, Reynolds said that it was business as usual for employees at the administration building, located at 3395 Harrison Ave. The employees were permitted to leave the building for a lunch break just before noon.

“Today is a work day,” he said. “They are instructed to come back.”

Reynolds said he was not at liberty to share details about the investigation, but that the district was working with the FBI.
