BEAUMONT — Julian Danner of Orange will have an extra special Christmas this year.

Danner was the winner of a 2014 Ford Mustang V6 courtesy of Ford Park, Southeast Texas Ford Dealers and H.E.B. at Ford Park in Beaumont on Friday.

The Orange, Texas man was one of 16 finalists who chose a key, sat in the car and attempted to start the vehicle. Danner’s key worked.

“I’ve been positive, it was going to be God’s will if I win,” Danner said. “This is the first thing I’ve ever won.”

But not everyone was convinced of his winning.

“Baby, I won,” Danner said to his wife on the phone. His wife, he said, didn’t believe him at first.

The give-away was part of Ford Park’s 10th anniversary celebration, John Hughes, Ford Park general manager, said.

“This was awesome,” Hughes said after the give-away. “It’s a great feeling.”

Hughes said he enjoyed the build-up of suspense as finalist after finalist took a turn trying to start the vehicle.

Hughes said the idea for the give-away came while they were in talks with H.E.B. about the annual Feast of Sharing and decided to give the car away at the well attended event.

Harvey Zernial, H.E.B. general manager in Beaumont, said the turn-out for the annual feast was a bit lower than normal because of the inclement weather. This year approximately 5,000 people took part in the Feast of Sharing as opposed to the usual amount of 6,500.

“We also help with 2,500 homebound meals through Nutrition  Services for Seniors,” Zernial said.
