PORT ARTHUR —
High mast lighting, similar to the lighting on U.S. 69 near the prison area, is going up on the Texas 73 cloverleaf.
Crews have been working on the project for about a month, and motorists have likely seen the large poles and construction site near the intersection of Texas 73 and U.S. 69 in Port Arthur.
Sarah Dupre, spokesperson for TxDOT, said the new lights are part of TxDOT’s safety enhancement plan.
“The lights are going up throughout our district,” Dupre said. “The new ones will be a lot brighter and light up the area better than the current lighting. You will definitely see a difference in the evening.”
Work began June 17 and is expected to be done in the next few weeks. Rainy weather has delayed the project slightly, she said.
