PORT ARTHUR —
A Port Arthur man was arrested on Monday on a charge of setting fire to his mothers home earlier this month.
Gary Thomas, 53, is being held on a $50,000 bond for arson of a habitation that occurred at about 7:50 p.m. Oct. 3 at a home at 4600 Forest Drive, according to a press release from Port Arthur Assistant Fir Marshal Paul Washburn.
The residence belongs to Clara Thomas, mother of Gary Thomas., who was at home at the time of the fire. Gary Thomas, Washburn said, lives in a detached garage apartment at the residence.
Investigators with the Port Arthur Fire Marshal’s Office believe that a fire was intentionally set inside the garage and another fire was intentionally set at the back door of the residence.
