Brian Anthony Lewis, 30, of Opelousas, La., remained in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on Monday charged with possession of a controlled substance, greater than 400 grams, a first-degree felony. Bond was set at $20,000.
On Friday, March 8, a patrol deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department executed a traffic stop for a traffic violation at 4:30 a.m. on Interstate 10 at the 845 mile marker. The deputy said when he made contact with the driver, the driver seemed very nervous. When the deputy requested consent to search the vehicle, the driver refused consent. The deputy deployed his K-9 partner. The K-9 officer gave a positive a positive alert for narcotics on the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, the deputy located five one-kilogram bundles (Kilos) of suspected cocaine secreted in a hidden compartment. The street value of the narcotics is approximately $115,000.
