Update: Jury gets Jefferson County Courthouse shooting case

Galveston — Jurors are deliberating the case of a Houston man accused of opening fire outside the Jefferson County Courthouse and killing a 79-year-old bystander.

Bartholomew Granger is charged with capital murder in March 2012 death of Minnie Ray Sebolt.

Investigators say Granger was targeting his daughter when he opened fire outside the courthouse in Beaumont.

The 42-year-old former truck driver and rapper has acknowledged that he fired at his daughter and ran over her with his truck because she testified against him in a sexual assault case. But he denies shooting Sebolt.

During closing arguments Tuesday, defense attorneys questioned whether the case merited a capital murder charge.

But prosecutors told the Galveston jury that Granger needed to be held accountable. They’re seeking the death penalty.
