Lawnmower flips, traps Fannett man in pond

FANNETT — An 80-year-old Fannett man was killed Saturday when his lawnmower flipped, entered a pond and trapped the man on Saturday.

Billy Huffhines was mowing grass at about 11:30 a.m. June 28 in the 22000 block of FM 365 in Fannett when the incident occurred.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 911 call about the possible drowning and learned that the victim was mowing the grass on a zero turn radius lawn mower around a pond on his property when the lawn mower entered the water and over turned pinning the resident.

Medics from the Labelle Fannett Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene and attempted to resuscitate the resident with no success.

Justice of the Peace Ray Chesson arrived on scene and pronounced the resident deceased and has ordered an autopsy.
