Orangefield gas leak repaired, residents return home

ORANGEFIELD — A natural gas leak in the Orangefield area has been repaired and residents were able to return home Sunday afternoon.

The leak occurred at a well site at the end of Gulf Road off FM 408 in the Orangefield area of Orange County about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 25.

The Bridge City Volunteer Fire Department, along with Sheriff’s Deputies, responded to the area of Gulf Road and Scales Lane. Officials took measurements of the gas in the air with Low Explosive Limit detectors and there was not a measurable amount of gas in the area where homes were located at that time.

Weather conditions hampered repair of the line and a special response team from Houston was brought in to assist.

Clint Hodgkinson, chief deputy with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, said via e-mail that persons with questions or concerns about the leak should contact the pipeline’s company officials.
