Three family members of a murder suspect are behind bars on charges of hindering apprehension of a fugitive.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office executed three arrest warrants for the arrest of relatives of murder suspect, Cody Lewis, for hindering apprehension of a fugitive on Wednesday, according to a press release from Deputy Rod Carroll.
The individuals are identified as Hope Pennington, 27, of Groveton, whose bond is set at $15,000; Terrace Edwards, 33, of Crockett, whose bond is set at $7,500; and Cedric Edwards, 31, of Groveton, whose bond is set at $15,000.
Deputies believe the three people assisted Lewis in hiding from law enforcement and had the knowledge that Lewis was wanted on an outstanding warrant for murder. The three individuals arrested are cousins of Lewis. Hope Pennington and Cedric Edwards were booked into Trinity County jail. Terrance Edwards was booked into the Houston County jail.
Lewis, 27, of Beaumont, was arrested April 18 after eluding law enforcement for more than two weeks in the killing of a Dallas man whose body was found nude and wrapped in a sheet and left in a vehicle in China, Texas.
Lewis, of Beaumont, is the third suspect arrested in connection with the killing of Kevin Moyer, whose nude body was found wrapped in a sheet in his car on South China Road April 5. A warrant was previously issued on Lewis for the charge of tampering with physical evidence in reference to the incident with Moyer.
Arthur Christopher Harmon, 21, and Yiannis Nikolaos Mihail, 31, both of Beaumont, were arrested for murder on April 7. Bond was set at $1 million on each.
The apparent motive for the murder, according to the probable cause affidavit, was robbery.
The men reportedly lured Moyer to a home in Beaumont to rob him. Moyer was killed during the robbery. The suspects put the victim’s body in a car and dumped the body and the car on South China Road. The victim was positively identified by the Jefferson County Medical Examiner via dental records on April 9.
