Man jailed for transporting 3 kilos of heroin through Jefferson County

BEAUMONT — A 64-year-old Clifton, Va., man is in the Jefferson County Jail on charged of transporting three bundles of heroin valued at $250,000.

On Monday, Feb. 10, a Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputy stopped a GMC SUV for a traffic violation, obscured license plate, on

IH-10 esatbound at the 843 mile marker. The deputy said that when he made contact with the driver, the driver appeared extremely nervous. The driver said he was returning to Clifton, Va., from visiting a 86-year-old friend who was hospitalized in Houston, When the deputy asked which hospital, the driver responded "Texas Childrens".

The deputy asked for consent to search the vehicle. The driver consented. In the back seat the deputy located a satchel containing three bundles wrapped in duct tape. The contents were identified as three kilograms of heroin with an approximate street value of $250,000. Bond was set at $100,000.
