Water District 10 bond proposition approved

Port Arthur News

— A $1.325 million bond proposition to fund water system improvements in Jefferson County Water District 10 was approved by voters.

A total of 59 ballots were cast in favor of the proposition with nine ballots casting dissenting votes.

Early voting numbers showed 52 in favor of the proposition and eight against.

The bond proposition includes a replacement for undersized clarification equipment and a computer monitoring system that will provide better communication between the current system and the personnel and staff.

Water District 10 consists of about 5,000 residents.

The next step for the WD board is to canvas the ballots and adopt an order to go forward to Texas Commission for Environmental Quality for approval of the project. The water plan is in compliance with TCEQ but the upgrades are mandatory.
