— Antonio Briones, “El Principito”, (Little Prince), moves on to the semifinals in Estrella TV’s talent contest, “Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento,” in Los Angeles this week.

The semi-finals will air Friday night at 8 p.m. on Estrella TV, DIRECTV, cable channel 42 and Dish channel 61. At this level, the people’s votes matter most, so it is very important for votes to be cast. Up to 10 votes can be cast for each phone number.

The 17-year-old Port Arthur Memorial High School Senior progressed up four levels of competition since first auditioning for the show. The current competition, which offers a $100,000 grand prize, will narrow the field down to five to ten from the remaining 25 contestants from a group of hundreds pursuing their dreams in the initial elimination.  Briones says that the competition is very fierce as the remaining competitors are very talented.

Since his second round of competition, Briones has faced a slew of TV cameras and the judges and hosts, who are well-known celebrities of television: Lorena Herrera, Timbiriche Diego, Ana Barbara, Pepe Gatza, the conductor Sergio Catalan, “Las Chupitos,” and Chabelita.

Briones has been appearing locally and across the state with a family group called La Raza de la Esquina. He, his father and brothers perform in the group. His father, Omar, previously played with the well-known group, “Los Reyes Locos.”

Even though Briones is so busy promoting his career, he is a member of the Memorial High School Varsity Soccer Team and is an outstanding player. In spite of all the afternoon practices, games, the weekends spent traveling with his family’s band, and his many auditions with this competition,  Briones is a distinguished honor student at Memorial and is a member of the National Honor Society. He also will graduate from high school with 18 college hours as he has been attending co-enrollment class in the mornings at Lamar State College - Port Arthur for the past two years.

Progressing to the finals in “Mucho Talento” is a fantastic opportunity for not only this very talented young man, but for our community of the Golden Triangle. It is imperative that many people from this area view this program and vote.
