NEDERLAND — A local business is looking to locate in the City of Nederland and expand its facility with a little help from Nederland Economic Development Corporation.

Specialty Insulation Services plans a $250,000 renovation of its facility, located at 1050 Detroit Ave. NEDC recently awarded a $100,000 grant incentive to assist with the renovation of the facility.

“In addition, Specialty Insulation plans to employ 26 people at this new location. They anticipate future growth in employment,” Mark Rantala, executive director of NEDC, said.

The renovations are expected to be completed by the end of 2012.

“One of the first objectives of economic development corporations is to create primary manufacturing jobs,” Rantala said. “We have limited numbers of industrial facilities in the City so we are excited to see this type of employment and potential future growth in the city.”

The NEDC board also awarded 11 PRIDE Program grants and four Sign-Up grants to Nederland merchants. The awards for the 15 projects totaled $90,689.05 and resulted in a total additional investment by Nederland merchants of an additional $126,000, he added.

Recipients of the grants included Daviss Donuts & Deli, Mazur & Vernon CPA’s, Simply Chic/Batmaster, Sartin’s Seafood, Better Living Medical, Vacuum City  Unique Gifts, Meineke Car Care, Regency Real Estate, J. Martin Seafood, Around the Clock Child Development, Hamburger Depot, Savant’s Collision, Airport Gulf Towing, Fast Freddy’s and Brammer Construction.
