Fannett man charged with shooting father, high speed chase

FANNETT — A Fannett man was charged with shooting his father and leading law enforcement on a high speed chase on Sunday.

Daniel Gary Mouton, 45, is currently in jail on bonds totaling $57,500 for the charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/family and evading arrest/detention with a motor vehicle.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about 9:21 p.m. Sunday in reference to the shooting in the 14100 block of Gray Road in Fannett. The caller told dispatchers that an individual had been shot at this residence and that the suspect had left the scene in a blue F-250 Ford pick-up truck. Deputies responding to the call spotted the suspect vehicle on Hwy. 124 near Gaulding Road, according to a press release from JSCO Deputy Rod Carroll.

Deputies stopped the vehicle then it took off at a high rate of speed Eastbound on Hwy. 124 with speeds exceeding 100 MPH. Deputies attempted to deploy a spike strip on the vehicle but the vehicle was able to avoid the spike strip. The vehicle turned North on Major Drive then went Eastbound on IH-10 continuing to travel at a high rate of speed. The vehicle exited Walden Road Southbound then Eastbound on Hwy. 124.

The vehicle pulled into the driveway of a residence in the 4900 block of Fannett Road (Hwy. 124). The suspect then got out of the vehicle and reportedly and disregarded commands of deputies and ran towards the residence. Deputies deployed a Taser device on the suspect. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. It was later learned that the residence was the home of the suspect's mother.

Deputies located a victim with multiple gunshot wounds to his lower torso at the residence on Gray Road. The victim was treated by medics from the Labelle-Fannett VFD/EMS and transported to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. The victim, whose name has not been released, is the father of the suspect.

Carroll said the victim is in stable condition.
