Man shot in shoulder during altercation, possible armed robbery

PORT ARTHUR — A 36-year-old Port Arthur resident suffered a gunshot wound to the back left shoulder following an altercation and possible robbery that occurred about 1 a.m. Friday.

The victim went to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas for treatment and the injury did not appear to be immediately life threatening, according to a press release from Port Arthur Police Department.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and his girlfriend were at the park located at 200 Amy in the Montrose Addition of Port Arthur. While at the park they were having an interaction with an unknown man. Police said it is unclear what exactly occurred that caused the altercation to ensue.

During the altercation the unknown man used an unknown type firearm to discharges rounds in the direction of the victim thus causing the injury.

Police believe there might have been property taken or an attempt therefore the case is currently being investigated as an aggravated robbery. The incident remains under investigation.
