Sheriff’s Office releases name of Vidor man who died after exchange of gunfire

VIDOR — The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has the man who died after exchanging gunfire with law enforcement on Tuesday as Morris Ray Bonnette, 64, of Vidor.

At about 5:15 p.m. Feb. 25, sheriff’s deputies along with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Office, attempted to serve a felony warrant on a suspect at a home in the 800 block of FM 1131 in Vidor.

When contact was made with the suspect, he was armed with a firearm. Gunfire was exchanged during the attempt to arrest the suspect, according to a press release from the OCSO.

The suspect was mortally wounded. No officers were injured as a result of the gunfire.

The Texas Rangers is conducting the investigation.
