PA man charged with intoxication manslaughter

PORT ARTHUR — Bond has been set at $500,000 for a Port Arthur man after a fatal wreck on Sunday.

Port Arthur Police believe Leroy Rideaux Jr., 27, was driving under the influence of alcohol when his car rear ended a vehicle driven by Maria Guadalupe Gonzales, 38, of Groves shortly after 3 a.m. Feb. 23 in the 3900 block of Memorial Boulevard.

The victim was stopped at the red light at the corner of Memorial Boulevard and 39th Street heading northbound when the suspect vehicle struck from behind. Gonzales and a 39-year-old male passenger were transported to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. Gonzales later died from massive internal injuries, PAPD Lt. Troy Lebouef said. The passenger also received internal injuries but not severe and is expected to be released from the hospital in a few days.

The suspect was also transported to St. Elizabeth hospital for non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released.

Rideaux was arrested after officers developed probable cause to believe he was intoxicated at the time of the wreck, Lebouef said.

Intoxication manslaughter is a second degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
