The Port Arthur News

— A Port Arthur Police officer remains hospitalized after she was struck by a vehicle on Saturday.

The officer, who is a 14-year veteran of the police department, suffered several broken bones and lacerations and has undergone surgery for her injuries, PAPD Maj. Raymond Clark said.

The incident occurred about 7:51 a.m. Nov. 9 at the top of the Texas 73 overpass which crosses over U.S. 69. The officer’s patrol unit was blocking traffic at the top of the overpass as she was removing some debris from the roadway. A vehicle struck the officer while she was outside the vehicle and a second vehicle then struck the back of the patrol car, according to a press release from PAPD.

The officer was transported to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont for treatment. Her injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The accident investigation is being conducted by the Department of Public Safety.
