Dinners and other fundraisers


  • St. John MB Church, 801 Grannnis Ave., will sell fried fish/chicken dinners with Menu: A Portion of Baked & A Portion of Fried Chicken with a slice of Fried Fish (If you don't want one or the other let us know). Baked mac-n-cheese, green beans, potato salad, slice of cake and cornbread. $6.  Can drinks sold separately. 10 a.m - noon. Friday, Oct. 11. Call 409-549-8721 or 332-7064 for delivery.
  • Winners for Life will host a bake sale at Bruce’s Market Basket in Groves from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12. Proceeds will benefit the Julie Rogers Gift of Life which raises awareness and makes available free mammograms for medically underserved women throughout Southeast Texas.
  • The Rotary Club of Nederland will host its annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, in the Nederland High School Cafeteria.  Tickets are available for $10 each from Rotary members in advance and at the door.  Desserts will be available for 50 cents each.  The dinners include spaghetti with meat sauce, salad & garlic bread.  Drinks are also available in the cafeteria.  Kindergarten students from each of the elementary schools in NISD provide entertainment in the cafeteria during the dinner. Proceeds from this fundraiser support two academic, one vocational, and one sports scholarship annually for Nederland High School students, “I Like Me” books for all NISD Kindergarten students, and other community projects.   • St. John’s United Methodist Church, 2728 61st St., will host a Pumpkin Patch for the month of October. The Patch will be open 9 a.m. to noon and 4-7 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays;  4-7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays; and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
  • • The Lamar University Chapter of the American Society of Chemical Engineers will hold a fundraising golf tournament on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Brentwood Country Club, 4201 S. Major Dr. in Beaumont. Registration is at 7:15 a.m. $240 entry fee includes green fees, cart and lunch. Contact for information.
  • Nederland Apostolic Church, 1308 S. 27th St., will hold a pumpkin patch fundraiser. The patch opens Sunday, Oct. 12, and will be open through Oct. 31. Hours will be Mondays through Fridays, noon to dark; Saturdays 10 a.m. to dark; Sundays noon to dark.
  • Quota International of Southeast Texas, in conjunction with the "COOKS 2 DOZEN" group, will host a BBQ (1/4 Chicken, Link, Potato Salad, Beans & Bread) Fundraiser on Saturday Oct. 19, from 11a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge, 2313 Nederland Ave., Port Neches, TX 77651 (across from Nederland Skating Rink, on Port Neches side of street near Magnolia Street). Orders can be placed until Oct. 11 by calling 409.543-1233.  (Orders of 10 or more can be delivered locally.)
  • God First MBC Hospitality Ministries will hold a booth rental fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at 2300 Thomas Blvd. The fee for a 22 by 29.5 space is $25. Each space must be paid for in advance and is non-refundable.   • The Friendship Social & Civic Club is having their 16th annual Dallas Cowboys Football Game trip. The game will be Nov. 3, Dallas Cowboys vs Minnesota Vikings. Funds raised will be used to help those in nursing homes who have no relatives for Christmas.
  • • American Legion Rudolph Lambert Post No. 7 is currently seeking names and military addresses of local military members actively serving. Information will be used to send a gift from Southeast Texas. All proceeds and donated items will go directly to our troops. For more information, to submit a name or make a donation, call 983-6931.
  • Knights of Columbus Council No. 3195, 6621 W. Port Arthur Road, hosts dinner sales from 4 to 7 p.m. Fridays. Fried fish or shrimp dinners are $7 each. Orders are available for dine-in or take-out. For more information, call Norris Simon at 736-3344.
  • Port Arthur International Seafarers Center, 401 Houston Ave., is collecting items for its Christmas at Sea gift box program. Items needed include: Socks, toothpaste, disposable razors, shaving cream, toothbrushes, combs, pencils and ink pens. Items may be dropped off at the Port Arthur Seafarers center or by calling Tammy Domingue at 982-4504.
  • Trinity Lutheran Thrift Shop, 2400 Procter St., is open from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. All proceeds benefit mission work.
  • The Attic Crossing, 3301 Medical Triangle Drive (32nd at Lombardy) offers name brand pre-owned clothing and shoes as well as new items such as fashion jewelry. Proceeds benefit the United Board of Missions Emergency Assistance Program. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • • The Mission’s Attic, 3300 Twin City Highway, is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Proceeds benefit the United Board of Missions Emergency Assistance Program. The Attic offers a wide range of donated items such as clothing, furniture, shoes, seasonal items and more. Donated items are appreciated and will be used to help those less fortunate. Volunteers are always needed. Call 963-1163.
  • The Salvation Army is opening a Thrift Store from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays at 3145 25th St. Port Arthur. The proceeds go to help clients through the Army’s social service office, be it financial assistance or clothing assistance. The Thrift Store offers a range of new and used items such as clothing, appliances, brick brack, shoes, furniture and much more. Come shop or come give your new or used items to help serve those less fortunate in Jefferson and Mid Counties.
  • Knights of Columbus Council 2461, 700 Central Drive, Port Neches, will host “Quick Cash” at 6 p.m. and bingo at 7 p.m. Mondays. For more information, call J.D. Mire at 722-7176.
