PORT ARTHUR —
An 18-year-old man was air lifted by helicopter to a Beaumont hospital after falling 25 to 30 feet into the cargo hold of a ship Thursday morning.
Port Arthur Fire Department responded to the incident about 8:37 a.m. Sept. 19 to a ship docked at Oxbow Docks on Coke Dock Road.
Once on scene crews determined that the victim had fallen while securing boom for an onboard crane. The PAFD Rescue Team and members of the Huntsman Rescue Team located the victim who was alert and oriented. The victim was “packaged” and lowered by the rescue team to the dock, according to a press release from PAFD. he was then transported to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth by Air Rescue. He appeared to have non-life threatening injuries, according to the press release.
