After a wild final night of regular season football action, the Texas state playoff pairings for bidistrict play are set.
In District 21-5A, Division II second seed Port Arthur Memorial (8-2, 4-2) will face 22-5A’s Division II top seed Manvel (9-1, 7-0) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Channelview’s Ray Maddry Memorial Stadium.
Manvel swept through22-5A with an undefeated record in its first year in Class 5A. The Mavericks moved up from Class 4A, where they made the state finals last season, losing in the Division II title game to Aledo.
This season, the Mavericks only loss is to 21-5A’s North Shore. Manvel held a 28-7 lead before North Shore rolled off 49 unanswered points to win 56-28 in Week 1.
The Titans finished third in 21-5A and hold the second seed in Division II after falling 37-33 to La Porte on Friday. It’s the second straight season the Titans have gone into the playoffs as the second seed in Division II.
In District 20-4A, Division I top seed Nederland (9-1, 7-0) will play 19-4A’s Division I second seed Dayton (9-1, 7-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lamar’s Provost-Umphrey Stadium. Tickets will be $3 for students and $6 for adults during pre-sale and $7 at the gate.
The Broncos had an undefeated record heading into the final week of the season before falling 45-7 to Humble Summer Creek. Dayton had risen to No. 6 in the Class 5A state poll before falling to Summer Creek.
Nederland and Dayton played previously this season in both teams’ second scrimmage this fall. It is the first meeting between the two teams since Dayton was in District 20-4A in 2007. That season, Dayton beat Nederland 63-0 at Bulldog Stadium.
Elsewhere, 20-4A Division II second seed Vidor (9-1, 6-1) will face 19-4A Division II top seed Summer Creek (10-0, 8-0) at 7 p.m. Friday at Deer Park’s Clyde Abshier Stadium.
