PORT ARTHUR —
Law enforcement in Chambers County have detained a man who reportedly shot his girlfriend twice in the head New Year’s Day in Port Arthur.
Deputies found the suspect on the interstate after his vehicle broke down, Port Arthur Police Sgt. Scott Gaspard said.
PAPD responded to an aggravated assault at Valley View Estates apartments, 5801 Twin City Hwy., at about 3:28 a.m. Jan. 1 where they learned the victim, identified as Jennifer Grogan Watson, 33, and her boyfriend, Ervis Chapman Jr., 32, had a disturbance that led to a physical fight, according to a press release from PAPD.
During the fight Watson sustained at least two gunshot wounds to the head. She was transported to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth where she remains in stable condition. Investigators were able to speak to Watson and her injuries were not believed to be life threatening at the time of this release.
At approximately 10:15 a.m., Chapman was located in Chambers County. He was detained and an arrest warrant was issued by Jefferson County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 8 Tim Gilliam III with a bond of $200,000. The arrest warrant was issued for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon which is a first degree felony.
The arrest warrant was served in Chambers County and Chapman was being interviewed by Port Arthur investigators shortly after the arrest. Investigators are working with authorities in Chambers County to have Chapman transferred to Jefferson County.
A woman is in stable condition after being shot twice in the head early New Year’s Day.

Officers learned that after a heated argument the victim was shot with a .22 caliber pistol by her boyfriend, who is stall at large, according to a press release from PAPD.
The victim was transported to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth where she remains in stable condition.
