Update: Tornado threat diminishes; still chance of strong winds, hail, flooding

The National Weather Service continues to monitor the threat for strong to severe thunderstorms for late this afternoon through Thursday morning across the area, Roger Erickson of the NWS Lake Charles Forecast Office reported at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Expect another windy day today, with gusts of 30-40 mph possible. Minor coastal flooding is also expected until the wind shift to the north on Thursday. The threat for tornadoes looks minimal now, but the risk for large hail and damaging winds will continue for tonight-Thursday morning. The timeline for the strongest storms in the region:


Southeast Texas: 4 pm-10 pm today/tonight

Southwest Louisiana: 8 pm tonight- 4 am Thursday

Central Louisiana: 10 pm tonight - 6 am Thursday

South Central Louisiana: 4 am Thursday - 10 am Thursday
