A Port Arthur group working to promote pride in the community and its youth will hold a rally next Friday..
Port Arthur Keep the Peace Rally is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, April 12 at First Sixth Street Baptist Church.
Shelly McDaniel, an organizer, hopes the event will help heal the community following the recent shootings.
“It is the intention of the committee and First Sixth Street Baptist Church that this occasion encourage our youth to avoid senseless violence, introduce them to alternative strategies of conflict resolution, bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community,” McDaniel said. “And the main thing is to introduce them to Christ at the end.”
DJ DMD, known for the song “25 Lighters” is now know for his gospel rendition “25 Bibles,” will be in attendance at the event, she said.
The program will include performances from local youth/young adult choirs and praise teams, motivational speaking by many of Port Arthur’s youth ministers as well as guest appearances from several local “super stars.”
McDaniel welcomes participation and donations from all area churches, social and civic clubs, businesses and other organizations.
“It is our desire that this be a life changing experience for al attendees and that through such an event we are able to make a significant, positive impact on our small corner of the great nation,” she said.
