Bond set at $2 million for Nederland robbery suspect

— Bond has been set at $2 million for a Groves man charged with robbing a Nederland liquor store and shooting the clerk.

Christopher Michael Hebert of Groves was arrested by Nederland Police on Friday, Nov. 22.

He is charged with the Nov. 16 robbery of Twin City Liquor located at 507 N. Texas 347 in Nederland. Hebert is also a suspect in an aggravated robbery that occurred in Groves the following day.

During the course of the Nederland robbery the clerk, Siraj Thobani was shot and is expected to fully recover from his wounds, according to a press release from Nederland Police Department.

Det. Ben Hanks with the Nederland Police Department conducted the investigation, and through information obtained by various citizens was able to identify Hebert as the suspect.  During the course of his investigation, Hanks interviewed Hebert and Hebert reportedly made a statement about the robbery.

Judge Layne Walker set bond on Hebert.

Nederland Assistant Police Chief Gary Porter said Hebert also has some probation holds as well.

Groves Police Sgt. Steve Hinton said Hebert is also a suspect in the Nov. 17 armed robbery of  FastLane Convenience Store in the 5400 block of West Parkway in Groves.

Hinton said the incident is still under investigation.
