Fannett child’s death ruled accidental

The death of a 4-year-old Fannett girl on Tuesday has been ruled accidental, according to information from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Autopsy results show the child died from asphyxiation. JSCO Deputy Rod Carroll said the girl had been playing on a swing set with a rope when the rope became wrapped around her neck as she was going down a slide.

JSCO received a 911 call about 11:35 a.m. Tuesday, March 12 of a 4-year-old that was not breathing in the 11300 block of Wiggins Road in Fannett.

Members of the Labelle-Fannett Volunteer Fire Department, Hamshire VFD and Acadian Ambulance Service were immediately dispatched.

Upon arrival efforts to revive the child were unsuccessful. The child was

pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Ray Chesson.
