Two arrested for meth in Orange County

ORANGE — Two Orange County men are behind bars on charges of possession of methamphetamine following a traffic stop on Tuesday.

Detectives with the Orange County Special Services Division were in the 2600 block of South Lutcher in Orange at about 8:45 p.m. when they reportedly observed a Dodge truck with defective lighting equipment in violation of state law, according to a press release from Orange County Sheriff Keith Merritt.

The Detectives conducted a traffic stop on the truck as it pulled into a parking lot of nearby gas station in the 2300 block of South Lutcher. The driver failed to produce a driver’s license and was detained. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed approximately 25 grams of methamphetamine.

The driver was identified as Justin Keith Martin, 26, of Orange. There was also a passenger identified as John Mason Edwards, 26, of Bridge City. Both men were arrested for possession of a controlled substance, a second degree felony, and were transported to the Orange County Jail.

Justice of the Peace Judge David Peck arraigned both men at 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday and set their bonds at $50,000 each.  Both men remain in custody at the Orange County Jail.

Sheriff Keith Merritt said that the Orange County Sheriff’s Office will continue to target individuals who sell, distribute, or use drugs in Orange County, and will use all resources available to get drugs out of the community.
