The deadline for several local pageants is right around the corner.
Texas Pecan Festival Pageant
The deadline for applications for the Texas Pecan Festival Queen’s Scholarship Pageant is quickly approaching.
Applications must be returned completed with registration fees by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, to the Groves Chamber of Commerce office. No late applications will be accepted.
“Stayin’ Alive for 45” is the theme for this year’s Texas Pecan Festival to be held September 19-22. Plans are underway for the Annual Texas Pecan Festival Queen’s Scholarship Pageant. The pageant will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Port Neches-Groves High School Auditorium.
There has been a change in the registration procedures from past years. There will no longer be an application period for participation in the pageant. Girls age 3 years to 12th grade that live in Groves may begin picking up applications at the Groves Chamber of Commerce starting Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Completed applications will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. Each category will be limited to 15 contestants. Once the category is filled no more applications will be accepted. A new category has been added this year and categories go by grade. The categories are Petite Miss, 3yrs.- PK; Little Miss, K - 1st grade; Duchess, 2nd - 3rd grade; Countess, 4th- 5th grade; Junior Miss, 6th- 7th grade; Princess, 8th – 9th grade; Queen, 10th – 12th grade;

Miss Mexican Heritage Scholarship Pageant
The deadline to enter the Miss Mexican geritage Scholship Pageant is right around the corner.
Applications must be turned in no later than July 8, 2013. The pageants will take place September 14th during the Mexican Heritage Society Fiesta at the Bob Bowers Civic Center .
The Mexican Heritage Society will award four scholarships in this year's Miss Mexican Heritage Scholarship Pageant pageant. Third runner up will receive a $150 scholarship, Second runner up will receive a $250 scholarship, and First runner up will receive a $350 scholarship and Miss Mexican Heritage will receive a $750 scholarship.
Girls will be represented in four age groups; Tiny Miss Division is 5 to 8 years of age; Little Miss Division is 9 to 12 years of age; the Jr. Miss division 13 to 16 yrs. of age and the Miss division 18 to 21 years of age. The applicant must be of Mexican descent.
